ARMED FORCES STAFF COLLEGE
Norfolk, Virginia 23511
Central Intelligence Agency
Washington, D. C. 20505
The Joint Chiefs of Staff have allocated four (4) spaces for the
Thirty-ninth Class, Armed Forces Staff College, to be utilized by
your agency. It is indeed a pleasure, therefore, to invite you to select
four representatives from your agency to attend that class.
The reporting period for the Thirty-ninth Class is 24 January -
28 January 1966; the convening date is 31 January 1966; and the graduation
date is 24 June 1966. Although your representatives are not required to
report to the College prior to 28 January 1966, it would be to their advan-
tage to arrive early in Reporting Week for administrative processing and
orientation.
Adequate quarters are available for bachelor representatives or for
representatives attending without their families; however, on- station
family quarters are not normally available.
In order that the College may communicate directly with the selected
nominees, it is requested you furnish this activity with the following data
not later than 15 October 1965:
a. Name and grade of the individuals selected.
b. Current mailing address.
c. A statement as to the individuals' security clearance.
d. Recent photograph, 1 x 1 1/4 inches. (Photographs used
in lamination of military identification card which is
required in this area. )

To participate fully in the course of instruction, it is necessary
for your representatives to possess a "Q" Clearance from the Atomic
Energy Commission, as well as a Top Secret Clearance. A delay of
approximately ninety (90) to one hundred twenty (120) days may be
anticipated after the Atomic Energy Commission receives such a request
before a "Q" Clearance is granted. The non-receipt of an AEC "Q"
Clearance would not deny your representatives attendance to the course,
but it would prohibit their attendance at approximately eight (8) hours of
very interesting instruction. Clearance for access to Top Secret
material, however, is a mandatory prerequisite for attendance.
In the event your agency cannot accept the invitation to fill the allocated
spaces for the Thirty-ninth Class with qualified representatives, request
this activity be notified not later than 15 October 1965 in order that we
may reallocate the quotas.
