WILLIAMSBURG, VA.--A smr;11 group of the Nation's most.
promising public servants gathered here today for the opening
of a three-day orientation meeting preparatory to a year's
~~raduate study in public policy and the management of public
programs.
The 65 young men and women, recipients of Career Educa-
(ion Awarc~~, w',ich are presented annually by the National
Institute of Public Affairs, were chosen in national compe-
tytian because of their exceptional ability, outstanding
performance and high potential for future leadership in
.government, They represent 23 Federal agencies and the
States of California, Colorado, North Carolina, Tennessee,
and Wisconsin. (A list of Award winners is attached.)
Youth, ability, and a variety of professional backgrounds
mar7t the group. Most of them are under 33 years of age. they
average about-eight years of civilian government service.
I`heir professional fields range from law and economics to
engineering and biology.
"These Awards are an investment in the Nation's future
and democracy's success," said Carl F. Stover, President of
N.I.P.A. "We ask our government to do many things in this
