Joint Meeting of Area and Language Roundtables The first joint meeting of the two Inter-agency Roundtables since the early 1960's was hosted on Thursday the 27th by FSI's Language School Dean James Frith. About 50 persons attended, including a few invited guests. Acting Director Howard Sollenberger -- who was introduced by Dean Frith as being close to an appointment as Director -- spoke to the group and stayed on through the two-hour meeting. A proposal by the Area group looking to closer cooperation between the two Roundtables appeared to find general support. This was to establish a joint standing committee which would meet during the summer for discussions in depth of the common interests of both groups and means of furthering them. I who will shortly bow out as Chair- man of the Area group, is working with Jim Frith and the Defense Language Institute's Joseph Hutchinson on setting up the standing committee. On a different point, 0 briefed the meeting on the new Experiential Cross- cultural Training Workshop which he recently attended at the Center for Research and Education in Estes Park, Colorado. Mr. Sollenberger expressed his interest in having CRE's Associate Director Albert R. Wight come to Washington to put on a similar workshop for trainers in several agencies.
