1. met on 20 October with the Committee on
Language Policy to discuss the present language
program, present policy (or lack of it) and the planning
for testing to bring the Language Qualifications
Register up to date as soon as possible. It appears
that some 5,000 tests will be necessary, not counting
retests. In order to be effective in minimum time,
the testing program will have to be phased according
to priorities. A detailed plan for such testing
priorities is in process of formulation and will be
submitted as soon as it can be completed.

3. Following up on an informal inquiry by 25X1A
25X1A , Office of General Counsel, in conversation
25X1A with C/LTS, of OGC has been interviewed
at LTS with a view to planning a pro ram of intensive
instruction in French for him, expects to be 25X1A
available 0/a 1 November to be-'in a FT course designed
to develop a particularly high level of proficiency
(RSW) to meet an unusual requirement by mid-summer 1966.
25X1A aptitude is,high. In due course he will be given
instruction in German at LTS, also required for his
European assignment.

4. A Portuguese class of two students and two
instructors spent three days at this week. 25X1A
A French group of four students, one dependent wife
and three instructors are-scheduled for 25X1A
next week.
5. FDD has requested training in French composition
for a talented young lady already rated high in oral
proficiency. They would like her to reach a writing
proficiencv which would allow her articles to appear
