WAVE when the course begins, to supervise its conduct
the first dew days and insure its getting off to a
good start. About 15 to 20 students are involved.
Tentatively, we are aiming at a starting date sometime
in the latter half of January.
requirements by correspondence.
2. A full-time course in Portuguese was started
for one student on 6 December.
3. Two students began the Basic French course,
part-time, on 6 December.
4. Upon telephoned request from FE, arrangements
were made to start a full-time intensive French course
for 10 or 11 CT's on 3 December, of which 8 appeared.
Most are beginners. Because of scheduled departures
for overseas they will be available for language
training only 4-6 weeks. This group is using a programmed
course, which is supplemented with two class sessions and
movies each day.
5. Among the four programmed courses in French
which are now available to LTS, three are being used
with students. Thirteen students (including the above
mentioned CT's) are using a short course. Another full-
time beginner is using a programmed course of long
duration. A third student, who is intermediate, is
following a more advanced programmed course part-time.
Initial reaction from all these students is enthusiastic
despite the long hours of laboratory work.
6. A full-time course in Arabic was started on
6 December for one student from Commo.
