a, C/OS provided the OS portion of an OTR briefing offered
on 21 March to six FE/Support officers who are preparing to depart
for the Far East.;
b, Messrs,,
of OCM were at Headquarters on 21 and 22 March for two
days of intensive briefings by senior Viers of the DDP/CI Staff.
were at Headquarters on
26 March for conferences with DTR and C/OS9 and to attend the pre-
view of the training film on Safe Sites.
d. DC/OS attended a meeting on Monday, 25 March, with repre-
sentatives of NEA Division, PPS/VP., and LASS/TR. The discussion
centered around basic, operational$ and language and area training
for a large number of new recruits to be given assignments in the
Near East. It was contemplated the first group, numbering appr.-
mately 30, would be available at the beginning of September 1957,
with smaller groups corm-ng on duty during the remaining part of
1957. Still others will EOD during 1958. Because of the varied
nature of Assignments for these recruits, some would take the
Operations Course and others the Operations Familiarization Course,,
in addition to the other required training. Because of the priority
which has been given to this program, it is felt that these new
recruits can be handled in regularly scheduled OC's and OFC'e
without setting up any special tutorial training. Considerable
leeway is possible because they will receive language and area
training either prior or subsequent to operations training.
