In opening the Board's consideration of this item, Mr. Bramwell
made a brief background statement, stressing particularly his belief that
this plan represents a more direct and complete fulfillment of the NIS
Committee's responsibility to USIB for recommending priorities for
production than did the previous annual forecasts which he felt had not been
very satisfactory.
The Chairman;indicated his general agreement with the subject
plan, but suggested that, in view of Indonesia's importance and interest to
the US, the General Survey maintenance schedule on that country be changed
from standard to priority maintenance.
Following brief additional discussion the Board:
a. Approved the NIS Coverage Plan, subject to the change
suggested by the Chairman to schedule Indonesia for priority maintenance*,
as a long-range production planning guide to be implemented flexibly and
reviewed annually.
b. Noted that the NIS Committee will discuss in its
Annual Report to USIB any significant changes to the subject plan.
c. Noted that the NIS Committee will submit an annual
production schedule to USIB before the beginning of each fiscal year.
*A revised page reflecting this change will be circulated in a Memorandum for
Holders of USIB-D-51. 1/14i
