SUBJECT : Review of National Intelligence Survey
We have examined the new edition of the National Intelligence
Survey on "Nationalist China With Hong Kong and Macao" as requested
in your memorandum of March 20, 1964.
The new one volume version of the Survey is more useful than
the numerous volumes of the old Survey, which were too bulky for
quick reference purposes. Moreover, the plan for revising the Survey
every three years will make it more valuable for our purposes. We
appreciated the opportunity of reviewing the study in draft, and the.
suggestions we made for revision appear to have been adopted.
We suggest that consideration be given to publication of this
and other NIS surveys in looseleaf form, so that the more "active"
sections of a Survey could be updated more than once every three years.
Perhaps a basic economic data sheet could be issued annually, giving
on one page the figures for trade, production, budget, etc.
