SUBJECT: National Intelligence Survey Program
This is in reply to your memorandum requesting views on
.the new National Intelligence Survey Program, as exemplified
by the General Survey (NIS 77) on Panama.
We think that the new program is an improvement and will.
be very useful because of its comprehensive coverage, the.
opportunity for more frequent revision, and the excellent
summary coverage of the many important divisions of the main
economic, social, and political headings.
In addition, the new form of the General Survey would seem
to,be of greater usefulness and convenience to high-ranking
officials who otherwise might be unable to devote sufficient
time to read through the details of the numerous NIS volumes.
