MINUTES
Research, Development and Production Review Board
Equipment failure occurred at the base station, and at
the time of the report had been satisfactorily cleared and the
tests Mere again initiated. lowever, there was a report of
another equipment failure at the base station.
2. The Operations & Training Division representative stated
that he had received a copy of the proposed paper from the DD/P
Materiel Board which indicated that that Board desired to set
production quantities of major research and development items.
This matter was discussed at length, and it was the general
consensus that this was within the perview of the DD/P to make
such decisions and that there was little that the Office of
Communications could do but to agree with this basic philosophy.
3. It was the decision of the Board that no further work
be done on, the gas absorption and silencing unit for gasoline
driven generators.
Meeting #58 of the Research, Development and Production Review Board
was held in the OC Conference Room at 1+30 hours on 11 July 1956.

The Minutes of Meeting #57 were reviewed and approved by the Board.
Under enda Item II, New Business:
1. The Operations & Training D vision reported that the
RS-16 tests between had been initiated but
that they had to be suspended because of equipment failure.
During the first phase of the test 12 contacts were made, and 11
messages were received. Three of the received messages were
garbled, and of these garbled messages, two were unbreakable and
one was satisfactorily broken.

4. it was the opinion of the Board that no further work
should be done on the fifth remote transmitter tuning kit that
the contractor.,[ had been using as a development
model. The Engineering Division was further requested to
determine if the 231D Transmitter with the development, kit
installed could be stored at the contractors for a reasonable
period of time.
5. It was the consensus of the Board that there was no
need for the Board to review the proposed functional characteristics
for an agent type variable frequency oscillator. It was felt
that this could be handled directly between the Operations &
Training Division and the Engineering Division and should only
be referred to the Board in the event that satisfactory agreement
could not be reached.
It was decided that the next Meeting of the Ideas and Requirements
Panel would be cancelled. Accordingly, the next Meeting of the
Board will be the regular Meeting of 1 August 1956. The Meeting
adjourned at 1600 hours.
