SECR,T Approved For Release 20OU4/11 : CIA-RDP78-05343A00020002QO 7-7 June 28, 1974 Dear Dr. Tietjin: 25X1 C Enclosed is my proposal for external training. I felt it would be helpful to you if I amplified on several points which did not seem appropriate for inclusion in the formal request, so am including them here on a less formal basis. Should the training be approved, my admission to Yale (or elsewhere) will still not be final until March, 1975, when all acceptances are announced. However, I have corres- ponded with the director of graduate studies of the Department of the History of Science and Medicine, and based on my back- ground (without reference to the Agency) and recent scores on the Graduate Record Examination, he has assured me that there should be no problem in being admitted to their program. It would be very helpful if I could learn of the decision on my request within the next few months if possible. Appli- cations to these programs must be made in the preceding Fall, and I will need the normal guideline as to how I should report I will also need to know how the financial aspects would be handled, assuming the training is approved, as this is reflected in the application questionnaires. (It would seem inappropriate to request a fellowship from a private foundation - the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation - under the present circumstances, though this is the only alternative to private financing open to others entering the program. University funds are essentially non- existent in this field.) I'm unsure how the cost of the training would be computed; if the tuition and fees involved are considered, this amounts to approximately $4000 per term at Yale. As part of the proposal I would obviously convert from Contract to Staff status. This was not mentioned in the request as my intention is to remain with the Agency regardless; this is not conditional on the external training being approved. However, it is my strong desire to obtain the proposed schooling, and I sincerely believe that the benefits to the Agency in providing this to me would be great. I believe this has covered the relevant points. If further information would help, please let me know what is SEC R E T Approved For Release 2001/04/11: CIA-RDP78-05343A000200020007-7 25X1A 25X1A Approved For ReleaseJ001/04/11: CIA-RD078-05343A0002Q 20007-7 required.
