Increase in funds allocated to Project I&$-18-49 (Research
Division, Covert)
of the Research Branch during the balance of the 1949 fiscal year.
1. There is attached a_memorandum dated 25 April 1949 from the
Acting Chief of Inspection and Security wherein a request is made
that a transfer of funds in the approximate sum of $45,000 be-made
from Project I&S-8-49 to IBIS-18-49. The request for additional funds
under Project No. 18 is occasioned by the necessity of expending
additional funds for salary and travel as a result of the increase
in the Table of Organization for the Research Branch as approved by
the Executive on 12 April 1949.
2, The records of the Budget Office reflect that of the
original authorized amount of $100,000 under Project No. 8, there
remains an.unobligated balance of $75,148.91. The sum of $44,317.42
is still available for obligation and expenditure under Project No. 18
with respect to which the Projects Review Committee originally authorized
the sum of $100,000.
3. Additional expenditures will be necessary through 30 June 1949
to complete the full liquidation of the activities pertinent to Project
No. 8, However, sufficient funds would be available for such purpose
if there were transferred on authorization by the Projects Review
Committee, the sum of $50,000 to cover the increased activities
under Project No. 18. It is consequently recommended that the Projects
Review Committee recommend, and the Director approve, the transfer of
$50,000 to cover any additional expenses applicable to the activities
