Broadcasts on industrial activities are diffuse in character but considerable
attention is focused on the continuing shortage of building materials for civilian
construction. The production of other consumer goods, notably footwear and
clothing, is still admittedly 3unaa.tls.factorT and lagging behind most other
Industrial activities. This s borne out also by some of the Statistical Bureaus
reports for the second quarte::? of this year. PRAM reminds industrial management,
in this connection, that plan-fulfillment figures , however favorable, are not
necessarily indicative of excellent performance. It frequently happens that the
'?overall" plan is completed and, even exceeded while its itemized specifications--in
regard to assortment, quality and so forth--are not complied with.
In the field of ideology, attention ib.s called to the citadel of Western Ukrainian
culture, the Lvov University and its various institutes, which are said to be
too slow in absorbing the streamlined history of that part of the country and its
reunion with Soviet Ukraine. PRA UKRAINY is officially berated for relaxing
its ideological vigilance, particularly in matters of nationalist perversions."
Moscow?s watchful eye on the life of its national minorities is felt also in the
references to discrimination against Kazakh girl students, inferior lecturing
propaganda in Tatar ASSR and the ideologically faltering cinema industry of
Georgian ;,SR.
