Approved For Release 2003/08/27 : Cl iCG~,a4718A002300140010-2:. SUBJECT Review of the Activities of the Office of Security 1. General Cassidy arrived at Col. Edwards' office at 1400 as scheduled. Col. Edwards explained that he and r--- IWVUJ-U give 25X1 the General an over-all office picture but that he would save some time for ssid sav e ~?" , tine to see "_?-.,. the Security file y system. The General stated that he would like very much to see the files, and that if time did not permit, he would see them when he revisits Security. (In both the Medical and this briefing, General Cassidy stated that he intended to revisit all elements, as he kept referring to his return visits). 2. Dur the period of the presentation by Col. Edwards and the Generalts questions were primarily to seek clarifica- tion due to lack of familiarity of terminology. The General then asked what responsibility the Director of Security had for maintaining the security of documents disseminated to other agencies. He specifically wanted to know if we could control the security measures of another agency or if we could inflict security criteria on other agencies and enforce it. The General cited as an example his observation of the way special intelligence was handled at an Air Force installation he visited. Col. Edwards' reply to this question was clear but carefully made. He pointed out that by classification of a document we indicated the degree of security with which it should be handled, but also made it clear that as far as the Director of Security was concerned, he did not attempt to monitor or enforce security actions of other Government agencies. (General Cassidy has asked this question of several Agency Officials). He discussed some aspects of the DCI position in this 25X1 field but felt he had best not attempt to talk for Mr. Dulles. 3? The General asked several routine questions as to our procedures in the security investigation of prospective employees and asked specifically if we received any assistance from the FBI on clearances. The answer was no, and Col* a t o bistorr of CIA--FBI rSI&tjgn&hjps on l 25X1 clearances.
