SUBJECT: Status of CIA Military Reservists in the Event of
Mobilization
REFERENCE: CIA Notice No. dated 10 Jan 1956
1. The Office of Personnel has screened the individual statements
of preference for military reservists processed in accordance with
referenced Notice and forwarded category listings to the Office of the
Secretary of Defense. In the great majority of cases it has been possible
to comply with the wishes of the individual. In statements where no pref-
erence as to Mobilisation Assignment was expressed, the recommendations
of the Operating Officials were followed in so far as practicable.
2. There were a number of employees having an unexpired statutory
reserve obligation who chose Category 3, that is, deferment from active
duty to continue in their current civilian occupation. The Agency
determined as a matter of policy not to request deferment for such indi-
viduals,
3. The attached list of reservists employed in your office appear
to have such an unexpired statutory reserve obligation and have therefore,
in accordance with Agency policy, been placed in Category 1 pending
completion of this obligation. At that time, if they elect to remain in
the Reserve Forces and wish to transfer to the Standby Reserve, they may
contact the Office of Personnel to arrange for a change in their CIA
category.
4s You are requested to convey this information to the reservists
whose names are attached. Sufficient copies of this memorandum are
enclosed for this purpose.
