ALLEN W. DULLES, Deputy Director of Central Intelligence
Allen W. Dulles was born in 1893 in Watertown, New York. He is a
graduate of Princeton (B.A., 1914; N.A. 1.916) and of George Washington
University (LL.B., 1926). He holds an LL.D. fram Brown University.
His career has included: teaching English at Ailahabad, India (1915);
a member of the American Commission to negotiate peace at the Paris Peace
Conference (1918--19)3 First Secretary of the American &ibassy in Berlin
(1919); Chief of the State Department's Division of Near Eastern Affairs
(1922.26); delegate to two Geneva Conferences, to the Arms Traffic
Conference (1925), and to the Preparatory Disarmament Conference
(1926), partnership inthe New York law firm of Sullivan and Cromwell;
and legad advisor to the American delegation at the Three Power Naval
Conference, and afterward as advisor to the delegations at the Geneva
Disarmament Conference of 1932 and 1933. In 1942 Mr. Dulles served as the
Chief of the Office of Strategic Services in Switzerland and later headed
the OSS mission to Germany. In 1948 he was designated by the President
as chairman of a three-man group to surrey the U.S. intelligence system.
He is at present a Director and President (on leave of absence) of the
Council on Foreign Relations. He has written several books, his best
known being Germany's Underground, In January of 1951 Mr. Dulles joined
the CIA as Deputy Director (Plans). In August of the same year, he was
appointed Deputy Director of Central Intelligence.

Mr. Wolf was born in Mt.. Vernon, Now York in 1894. He received
his M. A. (honoris causa) from Yale in 1918, He rose from clerk in
the City Bank Farmers Trust Company (formerly Farmers Loan & Trust
Co,,) in 1919 to senior vice-president in January 1941. He served
on the Board of Directors from 1910. He has been vice-president of
the National City Bank of New York since 1936; vice-president of
George Parsons Sons, Inc.; director of the Sheffield Land Comps;
member of the U. Sa Advisory Board Zurich General Accident & Liability
Insurance Co.; director of the Zurich Life Insurance Company of New
York; director of the American. Guarantee and Liability Insurance Com-
pany Trustee Empire City Savings Bank. Rsr. Wolf served as Private,
10th Comm. Field Arty., 1916; 2nd Lt, 303rd Field Arty, A.ILF., 1917
to 1919' He was deputy manager of the War Finance Commission., New
York, of the U.S. Treasury; trustee, N. Y. City Mission Society, Orphan
Asylum SCCd r of New York City Salisbury School; director of the New
York School for the Deaf, White Plains, New York; United Neighborhood
Houses, N. Y. City; member of the Financial Commissioxn, N. YQ Diet
Kitchen Association; and president and trustee of the Annie R. Tinker
Memorial Rome, He belongs to the University Club; Yale; The Links;
Knickerbocker (N. Y, City) ?Silbrook (N, Y.) and the Hunt Club, Mr. Wow
is at present Deputy Director (Administration).

ROBERT AMO , JR., Acting Deputy Director/Intelligence
Robert Amory, Jr. was born in Boston in 1915 and was educated at
Harvard University, graduating from the Harvard Law School in 1938. lie
practiced law in New York City from 1938 to 1940. He saw military
service from 1941 to 19!6, rising from the rank of private to that of
colonel in the Corps of Eigineers of the U.S. Army. He commanded the
Engineer Boat Battalion and Boa and Shore Regiment in New Britain, New
Guinea, Luzon, and the Southern Philippine campaigns, From 1946 until
his current assignment,: he was Professor of Law at Harvard University.
In rarch 1952, Mr. Amory was appointed Assistant Director for Research
and Reports. At the present time, he is serving as Deputy Director/Tntelli-
genos during the absence of Mr. Backer.

GFARGE G. CAREZ, Assistant Director for operations
Tara Carey was born in Baltimore, I.Saryland In 1900. He graduated
from Johns Hopkins University In 1921a He eras' vith the Royal Flying
Corps during World War I collecting for Field H.4usewn of Chicago
between World Y.ar I and II. He served as. Colonel in the Air Foroe
with the Joint - and combined staff Planners during 1941 45. He has
been with CIA since November 1946. Mr, Carey is at present Assistant
Director for Operations*

DR. H. MA.R5HALL CHADWELL., Assistant Director for Scientific Intelligence
Dr. Chadwell.was born in Amesbury, Massachusetts. He took his
Bachelor's Degree from Darmouth College and his Ph.D. in Physical
Chemistry from Harvard. Dr. Chadwell has taught at Tufts College,
Dartmouth College, Harvard, and Radcliffe College, He was a visiting
professor at the University of Frankfurt, Germany, He has been
Associate Director for the Natural Sciences of the Rockefeller
Foundation, and Vice Chairman' Division of Chemistry and Chemical
Technology, National Research Council. He has served the government
in the past 12 years in the National Defense'Research Committee of
the Office of Scientific Research and Development; the Atomic Energy
Commission; and the Central. Intelligence Agency.
Dr. Chadwell is a member of various professional societies, and
has been. awarded the Medal for Merit (US), and the King's Medal for
Service in the Cause of Freedom (UK). Much of his research work has
been done on the physical chemistry of solutions and the reactions
of atomic hydrogen.

S KENT. Assistant Director for National Estimates
> Kent was born in Chicago in 19036 He received his PhD in
history from Yale. He was an instructor of history at Yale from 1928
to 1930 and from 1933 to 1936. He was Assistant Profe,csos from 1936 to
1940 and Director of General Studies, Yale Graduate School fran 1940 to
1911. During the war, Professor lent was Initiating Chief of the Mediterranean
Section, Division of special Information, office of coordination, and then
became Chief of the African Section of the European African Division of the
Research and Analysis Branch of 055. In that capacitor he was directly
responsible for the research and intelligence of a political, economic, and
geographic nature on European countries, Africa, and the Near East. In
January 1946, after the Research and Analysis Branch of 0Ss was transferred
to the Department of State, he became Acting Director of the Office of
Research and Intelligence. Professor Kent was a member of the Resident
Faculty of the National War College from August to December 1946. He is
author of the book Striate c Intelli cs (Princeton University. Press, 1949
which he wrote as a im"~`Follow from January through September 19470
He resumed his duties as professor of history at Yale in September 1947,
and then joined CIA in January 1951. Mr. Kent is at present Assistant
Director for National Estimates.

H1t7NT: QT0N D. SFIEL1XN, Assistant Director for Current Intelligence
Huntington D. Sheldon was born in Greenwich, Connecticut in 1903.
He received his B.A.degree from Yale University in 1925, and his
earlier education in Europe, having attended Eton College, England for
four years. After serving with the accounting firm of Price, Waterhouse
and Company for taro years in Europe, he returned to the United States
and was engaged in the investment banking field until the outbreak of
World War II. He served in the European Theater for nearly four years
as an intelligence staff officer with the US Air Force. He is at present
a Colonel in the USAF Reserve (Inactive). Mr. Sheldon joined CIA in
June 1952. His present position is Assistant Director for Current
Intelligence.
