An election conducted by the National Labor Relations Board
was held last Tuesday and Wednesday. The election was intended to
decide whether the old International Longshorements Association or
the new ILA created by the American Federation of Labor should
speak for the dockworkers in New York and New Jersey. Argument on
the disposition of 4405 challenged votes began on 28 December
before the NLRB.
In developments since the election, the AFL has called for a
new election because of alleged "intimidation" and as a counter-
move, the President of the ILA has threatened to order an Atlantic
Coast strike at midnight, 2 January, unless the New fork Shipping
association resumes negotiations this week.

a. Transfer of Motor Pool -Functions (continued item)
The procedure for obtaining vehicular support at Agency Head-
quarters has been approved by the ADD/A and is in the process of
being published as an Agea cy Notice. A representative of the
Transportation Division has called on representatives of Major
Components that are -primarily concerned due to the loss of
assigned chauffeur driven vehicles. Ditto copies of the notice
have been left with these representatives to acquaint them with the
new procedures that will be inaugurated on 4 January.
