Bubject: Contract No. 0-155
During a conference with the custaerer's project engineer
on 28 April 1959, this contractor was requested to suboit a proposal
covering the cost of converting the aft door of a C-54 aircraft to serve
as a lick-out door in cojunatiGn with the forward aircraft door prs-
viously designed and built by this conpatoy under Task Order Ao. 1 of the
subject contract.
A set of C-54 doors t5oa which the proposed revision was
to be accaaplished was delivered to this contractor on 29 April 1959.
Upon inspection it was discovered that the aft door had previone3y been
aodtfied to incorporate a 001-UST' inwardly opening door. This informa-
tics was conveyed to the custaaer's project engineer by telephone on
30 April 1959. Subsequiestly, this contractor was instructed to proceed
with the eaditications in the following manner:
a. Leave the sting weather seals intact and make the
inner door integral with the reminder of the aft door.
b. No additional seal need be provided on the outside
at the Juncture of the inner and outer aft doors.
e. Incorporate an easrgency handle in the aft door for
releasing the hinge Plus and the locking dogs. The eaargency handle is
to be ind~psodeat at the door operating handle.
d. Use parts from either of the doors furnished as
necessary to expedite the modification.

This contractor's proposal to acconplish the requested
modification in the reamer outlined above on a Cost-Plus-Fired-pee basis
is as follows:
Furnish labor and materials required to
convert a C-54 aircraft aft door to a hinged
inwardly opening door, be the existing
inner door in the aft door integral with the
aft door, provide an emergauay baedle systs
for the aft door, and install the converted
door in a C-54 aircraft.

It is estimated that the proposed modification can be com-
pleted by 21 My 1959, provided that immediate authorization is received
to utilize overtime hours as required. Installation of the converted door
can be acccaplishsd within tour days after a C-54 aircraft is made available.
We request that a Charge 33rder authorizing this work, and
the necessary overtime authorization, be furnished as promptly as possible.
