Dr. Reuben Nathan
EDUCATION.*
Germany
University of Berlin, Frankfurt, Geneva & Innsbruck.
Studied law, economics, politics and international affairs.
1934 Passed German Bar Examination but was refused promotion to
Doctor of Law in Frankfurt after Hitler had come to power.
1936 Promoted to Doctor of Politics by University of Innsbruck.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS.
1934-1938 Travelled and lived in England, France, Austria, Belgium,
Holland and Denmark. Produced motion picture shorts and
wrote articles against the Hitler Regime.
1938-1941 Eaigrated to the United States. Worked at odd jobs such
as Wall Street clerk, assistant to writers and radio
commentators; managed news-picture agency doing research
in political and military science.
1943-1944 Basic and Specialist training in U. S. Army Signal Corps;
was sent overseas to specialize in Psychological Warfare
activities; was detached to SHAEF in London, Created
German language magazine which reached German market in
Summer 1945. Magazine attained and maintained for three
years a paid circulation of 650,000 copies monthly.
1945-1946 Chief of Anglo-American Joint Magazine Program, responsible
for publications in Germany, Austria, France, Belgium,
Holland, Italy and Scandinavia.
1946-1949 Chief of Periodicals Section, Reorientation Branch, War
Department, Civil Affairs Division. Had offices in
New York and l oadon with a staff of 36 editors,,
Published, serviced and edited magazines and newspapers
in the occupied areas of Germany, Austria, Trieste,
Japan, Korea and the Ryukyu Islands.
1950-1962 Chief, Planning Section, Radio Free Europe. Director of
Policy directing psychological strategy in broadcasts
to Eastern Europe.
1962 Foundation of the Fairfield institute for Political Psychology
and International Communication.
Special Consultant on International Communications and Perma-
nent Consultant to Radio Free Europe.
As U. S. Army Reservist, is a mobilization designee to the
Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Military Operations
(Director for Special Warfare) and Officer-in-charge of
the 2nd Mobilization Designation Detachment in New York.
Also teaches International Communications at the Graduate
School of Public Administration of New York University.
PUBLICATIONS: Numerous articles which have appeared in various magazines
including FORTUNE. Currently working on a book dealing
primarily with the implications of the global crisis
for the average citizen.
