IM 231-D-20 25X1 is a fr.gwncy quadrupler and nonlinear amplifier. It L driven IV the M4 and AS-4A with rectangular r.f. Palms at one-grantere desired output frequency. Naveshaping for splatter prevention is aaoaglished in the higb- level plate modulator. The modulator also serves to dodle the peak plate voltage to the r.f. power wiplifi.er, the. iacreaslag its palsy power output from 3 to 12 kilowatts. {'V It is am desired to operate ABA sad A2-b A trsmsuitting teruiaals into the Collins 20541 linear saplifier. '!De adAmtaps to be gained are that 45 kw output can be achieved (6 db 3mprove^ant) mad the frequency reap is increased from 4-26 megagclas with the 231-D-20, to 2-30 with the 20541. In addition, it uses servo timing as contrasted with =640 ss; ties the 20541 servo system accouodates an u ale acted m caber at fftqum q aseipuents, as con- trasted to 10 preset frequencies for the 231-D-a0* i!e 205-461a also acre suitable for general purpose use, being a Buena saDllftsr. The 20541 amplifier is morally used with the 31Cr series or S exciters. Tlrse exciters isaluie a frequnq quthrsirr wiioh determines the output frequency-of the treesaitter. on s Nthssiser also provides the rain tuning information rewired by the 20541 soliftar. Cosine-squared waveshapes vill be approximated for rapid convergence of, the pulses' frequency spectra. Then the 31(7 exciter vill translate this WW signal to the desired pet freque c; for amplification to the 45 kw level in the 20541 amplifier. This approach avoids the most difficult and expensive functions performed by the present ABA and AS-11A exciterst 1) no variable-frequency r.f. circuits are encountered since operation is fixed at 300 kc; and 2) precisely controlled oscillators are not required in the ABA and AS-h-A, because the 310E synthesizer determines the output frequency. These two simplifications will result in very simple electrical and mechanical design compared to existing ABA and AS-hA exciters for,the 231-D-20 tremsuitter. The proposed exciter should be considered sg additionbo the ABA and AS-2A,.rather than as a replaaemeat for the present variable-frequency one. Thus with the proposed exciter installed In addition to the existing one, the user may operate into either a 3107 and 20541, or into the 231-D-20 transmitter. will desigt, develop and fabricate one (1) 25X1 linear exciter pets use a -k and AS-A with the '31(7 and 20541.e p- sents. This exciter will operate at 800 or 960 pulses per second (for the AS-k_ and AS-hA respectively) at the throe of a switch. W![ will be pnsrated at 300 kc. The proses will be shaped for minimum crosstalk and splatter. This exciter will be built upon acs standard chassis for scusting In the bleak pearl space .available in either an ABA or an A3-hA. Contractor will study control circuits at the 20341 and 3107, and design the any exciter for compatibility with their control requir rats. Vertical cable-duct panels, both sign" and power, and drsv er slide hardware will be provided In kit form for easy field installation into any existing ABA Transmit Terminal. Wiring details will also be provided for AS-kA in- stallation, but its cable ducts will not be fabricated in view of the intended use of the first exciter with an AS-A. It is not expected that the 20541 or 314 equipments will be avail- able for local operation with the proposed exciter. '1Lerefore, this proposal excludes testing with the 205-J1 and 3107 by Contractor's personnel. Drawings Schematic diagrams of the exciter and layouts tt cable duct wiring will be provided. limnvfaeturiag drwings will not be prepared. gngiaeering sketches, to the extent re4aired for fabrication at the egaiprst, will be sub- mitted.
