1. A meeting of the committee on drilling equipment vas held U. Flay
1956. The following representatives were present:

2. The drilling equipment and trench unit tested at ~~ during 25X1
the week 30 April - 4 May 1956, and demonstrated 9 May 19956, was described
and the results of tests discussed.
3. After this discussion stated that the drilling unit 25X1
demonstrated we a good effective pro ype and with certain modifications
could be useful to TBS/ABD. The diamond core drills were particularly effec-
tive however greater lengths of drill with rapid core removal are required.
Efforts should be >wde to lighten up the electric motor, if practical, even
at the cost of redus."d power. Suitcase packaging is not a firm requirement as
long as the unit will knock down into light lads. The bicycle power unit
needs redesign for mre effective operation, nttd it was decided not to dsesn-
strate the unit until a sore effective unit could be obtained. E) 25X1
will take action accomplish the required changes.
4. Discussion concerning the trencher ms centered around the high
noise level produced. Tests indicated the general performance of the trencher
is exceLten: but the terrific noise produced by the engine rules out most
ASD applications. AL) will further investigste muffling possibilities as well
as look into electric power for this unit.
