The (contractor continued to indicate that he was experiencing difficulties in completing his equipment set-up for the Tandem Switch tests. A contractual amendment has been forwarded to the contractor establishing 7 June as the date to restart testing. 2. Funds in the amount of $460K were provided for HATS on 14 May. Finishing touches were applied to the specifica- tions which were subsequently forwarded to OL/PD on 18 May. The RFP was in the hands of the four prospective bidders by 21 May. Apre-bidders' conference is to be held on 3 June, and final responses are due on 11 June. 3. Frequency and telephone number assignments for two attache case mobile radio telephonesintended for the D/CO were received from CAP Telephone Company via IRAC. The sets were programmed for the assigned telephone numbers, demonstrated, and issued to the D/C0. firmed up considerably during this period, and many long-lead time equipments were placed under procurement action. The technical evaluation of the AFT proposals were completed on 10 May. Clarification questions were submitted to the remaining four bidders allowing a response date of 1 June. A Compuscan OCR and M-40 Teletype, AFT components, were interfaced and are being used to program the OCR. 8. Error-control and modulation tests, begun in April, were continued on the HF path. The data acquired from these tests are being reduced for detailed analysis; however, the initial results of time-diversity modem operation shows a significant improvement in Character Error Rate (CER) over conventional FSK operation. 9. With the successful com etion of the six-month training course, Messrs. accepte an trans erred to the AutoSpec career panel. 10. The (satellite performed poorly during the month. Several spin-ups and long periods of large gain variations were noted. The satellite continued to operate without failure and base stations remained with that space segment for the entire month. However, activation has been delayed until the antenna shed is redesi ned to reduce excessive attenuation. A site survey at was also completed. 12. SC-lA terminals 0042 and 0043 were successfully tested and acce ted for delivery at the manufacturer's plant The tests demonstrated the highest values of G T ever achieved with the SC-lA, due to the new LNR paramp. Acceptance tests were also successfully completed on the PSK Demod Automatic Reacquisition Kit. 13. The SKYMUX program is progressing satisfactorily. Testing of the first article MX-113 multiplexer in all SKYMUX configurations is complete; additional testing is being conducted to verify proper operation with various mixes of KW-7's and KW-26's over both local and HF tail-end circuits. A rough draft of the production Acceptance Test Procedure has been received, and delivery of the first six production units is scheduled for 6 June. The new CU-113 crypto control unit has been success- fully tested on a 75-baud HF circuit at 0 The test was run to determine the feasibility of using the KG-13 as a backup crypto device for RTTY circuits. 15. Their recommen anon is for production of the system. 21. Procurement action was initiated for an Automatic Test Equipment ATE which will be installed at the Technical Support Branch, The system selected after several years of market research is the General Radio Model 1792-D. This system is computer controlled and is designed to test analog, digital, and hybrid printed circuit .boards. A smaller companion ATE will also be procured for installation at the vault, where it will be used to test crypto boards. The new Automatic Test Equip- ment will eventually absorb the workload now being performed by FIXIT, plus other functions. FIXTT has been in use far a number of years and has done a fine job but is now becoming very difficult to support due to bankruptcy and contract termination of its manufacturer, Systomation, Inc. 22. The first shipment of SG-75A exciters was receive from the field for the white noise modification to a Model "B." All printed circuit boards were tested by FIXIT and marginal components were replaced. These units were modified, aligned, and inspected for specifications. All units modified to date have met or exceeded original manufacturer's ?'specs." A schedule is now being prepared for field exchange.
