Approved For Release 20047/28 7/28 : F7A- ~02820A001200060002--0 Langley Technical Section General The Main Signal Center renovation program for the pending MAX installation is on schedule. We have targeted the completion date to 1 September 1967. I. Wire Unit 1. Main Signal Center a. The service schedule for the month is current., b. Removed all of the Remote Indicator Blown Fuse Alarms (BPA), Full Reel Alarms (F~tA), and Out of Tape Alarms (OTA modifications from the eight Monitor Reperforator Cabinets to the Main Console and returned the cabinet wiring according to the standard teletype drawings. c. Removed all of the alarms from the Receive Reperforator Cabinets to the Main Console and returned the cabinet wiring according to the standard teletype drawings. d. All of the alarm cabling from the cabinets to the "Black" frame room were removed from the floor cells. e. The teletype equipment from the Signal Center Telecon Room was removed. f. Relocated the Telephone and Western Union equipment in the Signal Center according to the new Signal Center renovation plans* g. The W.T.F. service position was relocated in accordance with the new Signal Center Renovation plans, h. Checked out a two-station intercom for FMSAC. We are now waiting for GSA to provide AC service before we can complete the project* i. Wire Unit (Continued) (1) Langley Signal Center Cryptographic Equipment - 77 Teletype and Miscellaneous Equipment - 333 TOTAL: 410 (2) Outside Area Communications Centers a Cryptograaphic Equipment - 10 b Teletype and Miscellaneous Equipment - 26 TOTAL: 36 a. Two emergency TDY's were carried out for OC-AD to 25X1A6b for the repair of HW-l9A and KW-7 equipment. b. TDY assistance was given for the Signal CenterAPMOM 25X1A8a Activities Staff for emergency repairs of the OS KW-7 net in II. Electronic Unit 1. KY-3 Secure Voice Program a. Installations (1) Installed a 1Y-3 with one extension at to the Headquarters automatic s . a microwave - extension 3093? (2) Installed a KY'-3 with one extension at Vault, -, to the automatic switch via microwave extens on . (3) Installed a KY-3 with two extensions in Roan 1a47, Main Signal Center, Headquarters - extension 3095- (1) Relocated a KZ-3 from Room 5C1815 to Rocs 5C1825, Head- quarters. - 2 - Approved For Release 2001/07/28 : CIA-RDP78-02820A001200060002-0 Approved For Release 2001/07/28 : CIA-RDP78-0282OA001200060002-0 II. Electronic Unit (Continued) (2) Relocated a KY-3 from Room 2D901A to Room 5A910, Pentagon. c. Modifications (1) Three NSA approved modifications (Number #5) were placed into the system for test purposes and the tests proved very successful. The modification corrects unwanted tones and dialing difficulties at distances exceeding 75 feet. Ninety of the modification +5 were placed on order by OC-S. (2) The service schedule is up to date for this month. (1 Set Troubles - 54+ each 2 Distant End - 3 each 3 Operational Error - 10 each (1.) Telephone Company - 12 each TOTAL: 79 each 2. CIA/CIFAX - 7th Floor has been removed. The circuit was corrected to manual prep, and start. This was requested by Signal Center/0C. b. Troubles Six troubles were reported and corrected this month. 3. Microwave System a. Three troubles were reported on the system and all have been cleared. 25X1A5a1 b. The located in the Headquarters Microwave Room have been adjusted for minimum distortion. 4+. Electronic Unit (Continued) 5. DCI/SO Very-High-Frequency Net Two problems were reported and corrected. 6. KY-5 Secure Voice a. The Headquarter KY-5 units are no longer in service because of the KY-3 replacement units. Arrange- ments are being made to P.T.I. the Kellogg-Switch with the KY-5* b. Five troubles were reported and corrected this past month. 7. Revamping of Electronic Shop The Electronic Unit Shop area was revamped for maximum work space area. The move will require wiring of another KY-3 test position and relocation of AC outlets. OVERTD A total of thirty hours of overtime was worked during this reporting period. A total of one hundred sixty-eight hours of Holiday time was worked this reporting period. Field Requests - Requests Line Items L/I Initial Shipment 92 1,333 1,282 This is a marked increase over last months field requests due to the quarterly requirements submitted - They requested a 25X1A6a total of 720 line items on 36 requisitions. 3. The cross reference (TB 150-1) for KW-7 Parts has been completed and distribution has been made. An additional forty copies have been ordered to take care of our friends in the local area. Items accepted as a substitute will be stamped with a SAME/EQUAL marking when possible. All vouchers will be stamped SAME/EQUAL. 3. Two in-plant inspections saw twenty-six PAL 350's accepted and sixteen rejected. 2. Two in-plant inspections ten HFAS-3 Antenna Couplers and one SLS-l accepted. Sixty items of electronic equipment were processed on PTI's, twenty-one items on job orders, twelve items on repair requests, and four items on receiving vouchers. 2. Six items of TTY equipment were processed on PTI's, one item on a job order, thirty items on receiving vouchers, and sixteen items on repair requests. Forty-five of the items were major pieces of equipment. 3. Thirteen T-3000 Recorders were modified per Memo #SPS-M-66-1034. This enables use of a voice operated relay with the recorder. 4. All ASR units in stock (21) were modified per ESB 66-073. ENGINEERING UNIT 1. Work on an FTS training program for OJT's has been completed in rough draft form. The program will not be initiated due to present work load. 2. All necessary items of test equipment for testing the TE-216D are available either at FTS or WCB Lab. 3. plants were inspected in respect to Spectrum Ana zers. ina ecision has not been made yet, but indications are that 1A5al will get the nod. 4. ASR-100 and R-390 Test Procedures were released for publication. 5. R&D/EP was notified of high rejection rates for the PW Transceivers. An in-plant inspection for future unl s is suggested. CALIBRATION UNIT 2. Eight pieces of equipment were processed and several new items checked. We also used our new H-P small parts contract, but results (in respect to time) are not yet known. Operationally tested and evaluated one 60 KW power unit of PTI. 2. Drained and tagged all radiator cooling systems. 3. Custom Applied Power Co. and two No-Break systems were inspected. 1. Workload remains high and it has necessitated some overtime. A TDY trip to alleviate any backlog may be necessary this coming month. 2. Two hundred receiving requisitions consisting of 3641- line items were processed. In addition, two cargo requisitions consisting of 2 line items were processed. CRYSTAL LAB 1. 25X1A9a ,??" 2. 25X1A5a1 25X1A9a 3. 25X1A5a1 All crystals are being checked for spurs with a temporary test set-up. This will be continued for thirty days and recommendations made for a permanent installation. Messrs. ICS/PD/OL, visited The plant is well equipped and from all appearances well managed. Messrs. visited . The plant is modestly equipped and unorganized for produc ion, however their technical ability is good.
