A rather substantial percentage of the total Laboratory capabilit was devoted to completion of the first phase of the Roadwatch Communications System during this reporting period. This phase required the assembly and checkout of ten field units (RS-700) including electrical and mechanical modification of the ASR-100's., two mechanical modifications of the ASR-l00 battery trays and fabrication of the CK-36 keyer applique units. In addition, seven aircraft relay systems (RU-700) each con- sisting of a modified Bayside 990P transceiver, Porta-Mobil transceiver, Laboratory-built control unit, Laboratory- constructed portable case, and a pair of Laboratory-built aircraft antenna, systems were assembled. The base station (AS-700), one of which was required, consisted of a Porta- Mobil transceiver, a Northern 174 frequency shift converter, a 100-foot trylon mast with rotor, a Laboratory-built base station console, a, Laboratory-built dual vertical yagi array antenna, and a modified ASR teletype system. Design of the aircraft antenna systems included running approximately twenty different antenna, patterns utilizing aircraft similar to those proposed for this phase one operation. 2. During the evening of 19 October, the Laboratory conducted the second in a series of tours representing a, portion of the training course for Support Services Professional Employees 25X1A6a conducted at ~ This month the Laboratory was pleased to receive visits from six of our visiting Area Chiefs and to have the opportunity to brief them on the status of our more important current projects. 1. Three new design projects were initiated during this reporting period. The first is for a Village Radio Alarm System to be used to alert established counter insurgency centers when a village in their area is being subjected to a, forced meeting by insurgent forces.
