The SY-3 is a voice message synthesizer for OWVL circuits. It
utilizes photoelectric storage and is capable of compiling an OWVL
message from a TTY tape with varying group rates and group counts.

Project Status:
Electrical and mechanical design of the SY-3 is nearly complete.
The overall volume of the SY-3 excluding Ampex tape recorder is 30" x
30" x 30". All, operating controls are mounted on the front panel.
These controls include an ON/OFF switch, START, RESET, SPACE DURATION
(variable from 1 to 4 cycles), INSERTION (automatically inserts a
space between the third and fourth letter of a five letter group),
LINE FEED (recognizes a LINE FEED function and inserts a space),
and INFLECTION (automatically inserts a letter with a declining
inflection at the end of any four or five letter group). A primary

All fuses and spares are located on the back panel.
The tape reader was installed on the front panel such that the
tape loaded from left to right. The standard loading of a reader is
from right to left. sill supply a modification 25X1A5a1l
kit so that the reader can be mounted properly. This modification

A sample TTY tape prepared by OC-OS was tried on the SY-3.
Except for FIG function, the SY-3 read the TTY tape properly. The
FIG function problem is minor and will be corrected.
To date, development of the SY-3 has progressed very well.
.Through the delivery date is specified as 5 August 1966, the con-
tractor may be two weeks late to allow time to incorporate the
tape reader modification.
