IL OPTIONAL FORM NO. 10 ApgriWEor Releaser2000%09/08: 1A 8-02820,j01200030008-7 UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT ?[. e orandu EP 66-124 The Files: Contract 4168-65, Task Order 01 DATE: 7 June 1966 25X1A9a FROM Mr. SUBJECT: Inspection Report No. 4 - 25X1A5a1 25X1A5a1 1. Project Description: The is an automatic fast scan receiver providing CW and AM modes of operation over the frequency range of 2 to 30 Mc/s. The receiver design offers a high quality manually tuned unit as well as a receiver capable of automatically improving the signal-to-noise ratio of ten available preset channels with 3 kc/s bandwidths. In two and one-half seconds, the receiver scans the ten preset channels and is capable of locking-on to a signal 10 db below the channel noise level. The signal-to-noise ratio of this signal is then improved by automat- ically translating it to the center of a 150 cps bandwidth filter with the resulting narrowing of the noise bandwidth. 2. Contractor's Performance: a. On schedule and expected to remain so: See Project Status b. Within obligated funds and expected to remain so: Yes c. Satisfactory technical progress: Yes 7. Project Status: Troubleshooting the receiver is taking much longer than anticipated. It seems that each solution precipitates another 25X1A5a1 problem. Mr toes not expect to have the-ready for 25X1A5a1 shipment until 23 June 1966. This additional time will not require more funding. 25X1A5a1 25X1A5a1 25X1A5a1 25X1A5a1 Since meaningful measurements cannot be made until all of 25X1A5a1 the troubles are eliminated, M has not been able to determine if the meets specification. However, random checks on the sensitivity, intermodulation distortion, ecc. indicates adequate performance. As an improrr..;:u test we tuned to various CW signals in the area to see if there was a noticeable 25X1A5a1 difference between them in the audio output. As expected the sounded cleaner with less background noise. This difference, however varied as we changed the grounding on the tuner module of The tuner was physically separated from the chassis and not properly grounded or isolated from the rest of the receiver. This problem will be eliminated once the tuner is installed. Regardless of the number of items which need cleaning up, the seems to perform well and gives every indication of being a first-class receiver. 25X1A9a Distribution: Original - R&D Subject File 1 - OL/PD/PCB/CAS 1 - R&D Lab 1 - OC-OS 1 - ESB 1 - EP Chrono 3 - Monthly 25X1A9a OC-E/R&D-EP7ds (7 June 1966) Approved For Release 2000/09/08 : CIA-RD 282;0 A091200030008-7
