Charge discussed with Raj Bahadur, minister in GOI communications,
latter's recent US trip. Bahadur exhibited special interest
in use of micro-wave equipment which he had discussed in US
with representatives of International General Electric and
Westinghouse. On return Bahadur said he had suggested to his
engineers possible employment such equipment in India. Engineers
not ene`rally receptive, arguing micro-wave technique uneco-
nomic but Bahadur apparently willing pursue proposal further.
He toa..d charge, however, he lacked technical background data
and asked if any US manufacturers of micro-wave equipment willing
send representatives to India to dttscuss matter farther, pre-
ferably before mid-October. Commerce may wL-,h.inform US manu-
facturers of this opportunity. Embassy will bring matter attention
local representatives US firms and will transmit despatch soonest
on Bahadur comments US trip.
