FOA Price of gold: Price of gold on Djakarta market has increased
from 43 rupiahs on September 1 to 50.5 rupiahs on Sep,tember 23.
Upswing reported to be result of rumors of shrinking gold
coverage. Gold and foreign exchange holdings have decreased
rupiahs 562.2 million since beginning 1954, and proportion
rent liabilities decreased from 25.1 to 20.7

Bank of Indonesia report for first half 1954 shows that during
period money supply increased rupiahs 10;8.8 million; govrern-
ment floating debt rose rupiah 1,571 million, brining total
government debt June 30 to ru is ' 1.4 , 871 mill ion; foreign ex-
change deficit of ru-riah 1,33 million, most of w.1-iich fir. anced
by decrease in gold Jnd foreign exchange reserves; retail
price indices showed decline while cost o-1-` 1-ving for civil
servants increased .although that for unskilled labor decreased.
