1. Before the end of the war the Continettal Research Inttitete at Change-hen had
200 Japatese reaearch workers, 40 of whom were qealified ociontiete and pro-
ject directors. SOMO 40 research workers and 20 guslifted scieutiste still
remain.
2. The Japamese evacuated the Continental Research Institute vhen the Sceiete
entered Chergchun, and the Chiesse took over the administration of the insti-
tute. About 10% of the equipment nes taken by tha Soviets. The present dam-
age, which amounts to 70%? was done by the Chinese Comneniete. The Changchen
'Institute, the leading trench of the Coatinental Institute, was primarily de? -
voted to research on industrial developments, nedicine, and veterinary surgery
