2. Spoke with Eric Leee on. the staff of
the Senate Commerce Committee,in connection with his earlier request
for a staff briefing on non-free market countries trade with the West.
I had conferred with Mr. Cary and I and told Lee that we
would find it extremely difficult to provide a briefing especially since
he indicated it had to be today or Monday. I told him, however, that
if the Committee wished to hear from the Agency or if he had questions
on the Soviet economy, to get in touch with us and we would try to be of
assistance. Lee said he expected that this would be the case and appre-
ciated our efforts.
3. Accompanied the Director to further
hearings of the Senate Select Committee. (See Memorandum for the
Record.)
4. In a luncheon conversation with Charles
Kirbow, Senate Select Committee staff, I expressed concern about
Senate Select Committee staff members accompanying members of the
Committee on foreign travel. (See Memorandum for the Record. )
