4. Bill Hogan, Counsel, House Armed Services
Committee, called on referral from Frank Slatinshek, Chief Counsel,
to request material to send. over to GAO for review
liquidation.. (See Journal item #31, 7 Apr 75. } I told him we would
get that material up to him. F -1 SOG, was advised. 25X1A
5. I IJim Gehrig, Senate Aeronautical and
Space Science Committee stall, advised that he would not be available
on the dates we suggested for his briefing by Mr. Duckett, DDS&T, on
the assessment of the Soyuz capability and he provided several alternative
dates which have been relayed tI I DDS&T. 25X1A
6.1 (Kenneth A. McLean, Subcommittee on
Securities staff, Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, called and
discussed the interest of Senators Harrison Williams (D. , N. J.) and
William Proxmire (D., Wis.) in activities impacting on the Securities and
Exchange Commission (and a banking venture known by the street
name 25X1
which refused to provide detailed information on the basis that the information
requested was confidential and they would only provide it through subpoena..)
Per McLane, as communicated to Senators Williams and Proxmire by the
Securities Exchange Commission, Mr. Colby had only provided "vague
assurances" about procedures to assure that: Agency activities would always
be considered in light of SEC's responsibilities. I told McLane that I
thought there had been rather explicit assurances on. the score and later
in conversation with Mr. Warner, OGC, that perhaps a following letter to
the Chairman of the Securities Exchange Commission by Mr. Colby may
be in. order and may satisfy the interests of the Senators. If this does
not work, it may be necessary to have a meeting between the Senators
and Mr. Colby, either in the afternoon of 15 or 17 April and McLane indicated
there would be no problem if the meeting was limited to the Senators and
not the staff, but we must get back to McLane concerning the arrangements.
