SUBJECT: Briefing of Ms. Fosdick on Angola
1. Mr. Cary and I called on Ms. Fosdick on Friday,
December 12, at her request to discuss Angola. With the
Director's concurrence, we told her current newspaper stories
about US involvement in Angola were reasonably accurate but,
if Senator Jackson wished further details, he should contact
Senator Stennis.'
2. The briefing actually was in two increments because
of scheduling problems. The second session consisted largely
of describing Soviet materiel support to the MPLA, the degree
of Cuban involvement, and a detailed background on the three
contending factions.
