I told him there were some possibilities but we do not want to be too encouraging because the openings here are few and far between. I said we would be in touch as soon as possible. (This is an applicant case on which Furlong had received an inquiry from Representative Robin Beard. `l? Alice Sherman in the office of Representative Al Ullman (D. , Oreg.) called and inquired as to actions taken by the Agency in combating illegal drug traffic. She stated that a constituent had written a letter prompted by his reading of the book "The Politics of Heroin in Southeast Asia. I suggested that she forward the letter to our office and we would assist in the preparation of an appropriate reply. _.,._ Approved For Release 2007/02/07 : CIA-RDP77M00144R000300100065-0 Approved For Release 2007/02107 ClMRQ 771% 0i44R000300100065-0 OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL Called Paul Summitt u Oconirni ee on Criminal Laws and Procedures staff, and advised him that our report to Chairman John L. McClellan (D., Ark. ) commenting on the Committee Print of S. 1, which codifies the criminal laws, would be delivered to him today. He requested that a copy by handcarried to Karen Skrivseth, Justice, who is clearing all reports for the Committee. I briefed him- generally on our report and offered to discuss further the effects of section 1124 on unauthorized disclosures upon the Agency and our own legislation for protecting intelligence sources and methods. Summitt feels certain that the section will be struck or greatly weakened when the bill is considered by the Senate in the next session. According to Sumnmitt, the bill will be reported out without hearings and calendared for floor vote at an early date- Approved For Release 2007/02/07 : CIA-RDP77M00144R000300100065-0
