8. Met with Chairman Lucien N. Nedzi
(D, , Mich. ), Intelligence Subcommittee, House Armed Services Committee,
who repeated Frank Slatinshek's, Chief Counsel of the Committee, request
of last night for assistance with regard to a listing of Committee hearings and
meetings held since Nedzi was Chairman and also the subject matter covered.
I told the Chairman that Slatinshek had relayed his request late last evening
and had included a request for a listing of all contacts with the Committee
d
uring the same period.
In a chance meeting later with Chairman Nedzi, he told me he
had just forwarded telegrams to the New York Times and the press gallery
advising them that he is scheduling hearings on the allegations of domestic
activities by the Agency and requesting their assistance in providing
information and possible witnesses.
9. Delivered a copy of the National Security
Act of 1947 and the Central Intelligence Agency Act of 1949 to Colleen in
the office of Senator Floyd K. Haskell (D. , Colo.). 25X1C
11. Sam Goldberg, State Department,
called and sought our general guidance as to what recommendations he should
make to Secretary Kissinger, who has been asked to appear before the House
Armed Services Committee on 21 January. The hearing was setup before
the recent allegations against the Agency resulting from the Hersh article,
but he felt that the subject might very well come up. Goldberg felt at a loss
to advise Secretary Kissinger on these matters since his office does not
involve itself in the Secretary's responsibilities as National Security adviser,.
I told Goldberg that the Director would be testifying before Senate committees
next week and that we would keep his interests in mind, but there was nothing
specific that we could suggest at this time.

J y Sourwine's, Chief Counsel, request
he would give his information to Sourwine, but he asked that I call Sourwine
independently advising him of the results of my checks. I assured Tarabochia
that if I developed any information contrary to what he has I will can him
first before contacting Sourwine.
I inquired as to the status of the Committee staff study on the
Venceremos Brigade which Tarabochia is preparing with an input from the
Agency. He judged that he would have the final draft of the study completed
by the end of this month or early next month. He said he was still having
a problem getting the other input (FBI) into the report; however, he is
prepared to complete the study without this contribution.

2, Received a telephone call from Frank Slatinshek;'
Chief Counsel, House Armed Services Committee, who told me that
Chairman Lucien N. Nedzi (D. , Mich. ), Intelligence Subcommitt_ee, House
Armed Services Committee, wants to start Agency hearings on the morning
of the 20th of January and that Jack Boos of Chairman Nedzi's personal staff
is coming on to the Armed Services Committee staff to handle intelligence
matters. Slatinshek asked if we would provide at least the preliminary list
of Agency personnel who will be appearing or should be called in the hearings
on Agency domestic operations. It will be appreciated if this list together
with a set of whatever newspaper clippings have been gathered by the Agency
on this subject could be provided tomorrow. See Memorandum for the Record.
Bill Jones, State, called to get the
citation from the Foreign Assistance Act which relates to Agency overseas
intelligence activities. After consulting with L I called his 25X1A
office and provided the answer.
