Approved For Release 20OW08/01 : CIA-RD _QKP B8O183R000400020WB-5 DIARY NOTES DDS 3 April 1962 1. Matt Baird telephoned to say that the National War College people were quite concerned about not being able to have Bob Amory speak to them as he usually does. He felt that Ting Sheldon would not be an adequate substitute; I suggested Sherman Kent and told Matt that this would be the kind of thing we should mention to General Carter over the weekend 25X1A2g 2. Matt has identified four people who have been declared surplus to the Clandestine Services whom he would like to pick up. They are in grades GS-12 and 13--three are PM types and one is a linguist. He would prefer, however, that they remain on the rolls of the Clandestine Services, if possible. I told him that he should make no commitments for a few days inasmuch as General Carter was look- ing into this entire exercise; however, if in the final analysis they were still to be separated and Matt had a valid requirement for their services, I would approve. 3. were in to see me about moving a par- tition in the immediate office of the DD/I in order to provide a larger office for Ting Sheldon, the new Assistant DD/I. I asked them to get in touch with Logistics but told them that I was very pessimistic that this could be done before entry on duty now scheduled for about 23 April. 25X1A 4. Jim Garrison was in to show me the material that he has prepared for General Carter on our real estate holdings and safehouses, together witnd Agency material assets. I think that a few changes are necessary and at ter t ese are made Jim will send this to General Carter and suggest that he and General Carter expand on it at General Carter's convenience. One policy question should be raised at this time: The DPD organization has a parallel supply system and its holdings are not included in this total; in addition, the holdings of proprietaries are not included in this total. (I want to raise this with General Carter to see whether we should move in on these two situations, both of which involve a great deal of money.) 5. I talked to as well as to about the possibility of 25X1A9a Jack's being freed from as orce W in time to attend the National War College. 6. George Carey telephoned to say that he was planning to retire this summer but wanted to stay on duty until 1 July in order to get more time in at the $18,500 level. Actually, he would like to go on leave much earlier than this but does not want to take a lump sum payment for his annual leave. I told him that I could work this out at the appropriate time. Emmett Echols telephoned to say that both the Household Finance Company and the American Finance Com an had been in contact with the Office of Personnel concernin loans made to I told him to make sure to pass this along to for his consideration in connection with the audit of a special fund in the DDCI's office. -2- Approved For Release 2001/08/01 : CIA-RDP76-00183R000400020159-5
