Referred to a letter from the Director of the Bureau of the
Budget requesting our budgetary forecast for the next four years
and commented that in view of the situ Ett in the Middle Rest
and Southeast Asia (particularly and the fact that we
are attempting to build up our assets he did not
believe we could operate In the clandestine a on a reduced
budget. Mr. Amory noted he hoped to save up to a million dollars a
year through economies which can be effected when we move into the
new building. Mr. Kirkpatrick remarked that in his opinion we
should not play up savings as a result of the now building unless
the size of the Agency can be tailored to fit in the available
space. He said he based this on the fact that with our present
strength It will be necessary to leave out certain elements and
thereby dissipate most or all of our savings from being under one
roof. Note: The Director asked Cole White to furnish him a
draft reply to the above-mentioned letter from Brundage?
