14. (Confidential - JMM) Called Frank S.latinshek, Chief Counsel,
House Armed Services Committee, about the transcript of the Director's
testimony before the Special Subcommittee on Intelligence, explaining
that while the Director had understood the prepared statement was to be
published, he was under the impression that his extemporaneous comments
were to remain classified. Slatinshek said they would like to declassify
for publication as much of the entire record as possible but would give us
considerable leeway in suggesting deletions. I said this would be fine.
15. (Confidential - JMD) Jay Sourwine, Senate Internal Security
iften staff, called and asked for any information we a on -
who is a diplomat in the country legally and stationed
at. the Russian Embassy. Sourwine has reason to believe is a 25X1
little more than just a diplomat. I is checking.
16. (Internal Use Only - LLM) In response to his earlier call and
based upon the told Dick McCormack that the
phone number was not an Agency number. McCormack said that
he had information otherwise and referred to a phone conversation with a
business manager of the phone company, and I said I would check further.
(McCormack said he formerly worked closely with the National Security
Council staff and Bob Komer and recently ran unsuccessfully for Congress.
The above phone number was formerly his and he feels embarrassed because
friends who try to contact him on that number a hesitating replies
and final admission that it is a CIA number. is checking this
out. )
17. (Secret - LLM) Walt Evans, i for Mark
Hatfield (R., Oreg. ), called concerning the cases and
said that if our package was not ready by Wednesday he would prefer that
it be held up until Monday since the Senator would be out of town.
