6. (Confidential - JGO) In response to his call, I talked to
Frank Slatinshek, Chief Counsel, House Armed Services Committee,
late in the day who told me that the Committee will want to talk to
bot O/DDCI Lan TSD. Slatinshek said
hope u y an have up at the same time that
Mr. Helms appears before the Committee so that the hearing can be
accomplished in a single session. Slatinshek asked if I would find out
for him who is handling Ambassador Helms' return so that he can get
in the right channel.for requesting appearance before the Committee.
8. (Unclassified - LLM) Met with Gordon Nease, Senate Armed
Services Committee staff, and provided him with: (a) a package in response
to the questions covered in Mr. Maury's memorandum of 8 May on followup
information regarding Agency involvement in the Ellsberg case; (b) a
package covering certain testimony by Howard Hunt which had been provided
earlier to the Senate Appropriations Committee; (c) a copy of the 9 November
1971 letter from Helms to Young, the 9 November 1971 memorandum from
o Helms, and the 8 November 1971 note from Dr. Tietjen t~
on the Ellsberg profile. Nease said he would contact me if he had any
questions.
9. (Unclassified - LLM) In response to his request for Senator
McClellan, provided Guy McConnell, Senate Appropriations Committee
staff, Xerox copies of pictures developed by the Agency for Hunt. Because
of the poor quality of the images, I also provided the substance only of two
explanatory memoranda for the record by Leo Dunn dated 5 December 1972.
Picked up from McConnell copies 2, 3 and 4 of the transcript of
the Thursday, 10 May hearing before the Senate Appropriations Committee.
