13. John Goldsmith, Senate Armed Services
Committee, called and asked if Mr. Maury or I could drop by to see him
in the next day or two to discuss an inquiry which has been referred to him
by Senator William Scott on the subject of the F I said 25X1
one of us would probably be by tomorrow.
14. Met with Ed Braswell, Chief Counsel,
Senate Armed Services Committee, and advised him, in response to his
question earlier, that Howard Hunt is receiving an annuity under CIARDS.
In response to my question about the timing of Mr. Colby's confirmation
hearing, Braswell said they expected to take up some DOD nominations the
latter part of this week and it was possible that Mr. Colby's confirmation
hearing would be scheduled next week.
I brought up the subject of General Allen's promotion and Braswell
said he thought action on this should be deferred until action on DOD appoint-
ments is completed. He added he thought there would be no difficulty as far
as General Allen was concerned.
We discussed the Committee's intention to publish Agency testimony
on the Watergate matter and I pointed out to Braswell the problems this
would create in our liaison with other intelligence services. Braswell is
sympathetic to our position and could only suggest that we raise the issue
in a letter to Senator Symington when the sanitized transcripts are returned
to the Committee.
