John Goldsmith, Senate Armed Services Committee, called and asked if Mr. Maury or I could drop by to see him in the next day or two to discuss an inquiry which has been referred to him by Senator William Scott on the subject of the F I said 25X1 one of us would probably be by tomorrow. 14. Met with Ed Braswell, Chief Counsel, Senate Armed Services Committee, and advised him, in response to his question earlier, that Howard Hunt is receiving an annuity under CIARDS. In response to my question about the timing of Mr. Colby's confirmation hearing, Braswell said they expected to take up some DOD nominations the latter part of this week and it was possible that Mr. Colby's confirmation hearing would be scheduled next week. I brought up the subject of General Allen's promotion and Braswell said he thought action on this should be deferred until action on DOD appoint- ments is completed. He added he thought there would be no difficulty as far as General Allen was concerned. We discussed the Committee's intention to publish Agency testimony on the Watergate matter and I pointed out to Braswell the problems this would create in our liaison with other intelligence services. Braswell is sympathetic to our position and could only suggest that we raise the issue in a letter to Senator Symington when the sanitized transcripts are returned to the Committee. 15. This has been passed tol 1 25X1 25X1 16' Amy Kohn, in the office of Senator Claiborne Pell, called and said they had requested some material from us with a quote from Alexander Solzhenitsyn "all that I know I learned.from Radio Liberty. " She said a package of broadcast material had been delivered to them, but they 25X1 could not find the quote. I told her would be in touch shortly.
