Approved For Release 2006/09/25 : CIA-RDP75B0038OR000200090038-4 5 January 1973 In my continuing search for information pertaining to the war time distribution of the "Liberator" pistol I have obtained some additional information which I hope you might be able to clarify for me. First, from the files of the Naval History Section I have obtained documentation that Naval Group China had 100,000 single shot .45 caliber pistols in its inventory in October 1943. Then, from a recent book titled, "055" there is a statement which reads as follows..."...OSS was prepared to train and outfit 25,000 Yenan guerrillas and to furnish Mao's Army with an additional 100,000 pistols." This was around December 1944. From the way it reads it soundslike 055 had already furnic;hed 1C1CJ,II of these pistols to Mao. But since SACO had 100,000 pistols and was takr over by OSS, could it be possible that the Navy Personnel in S.,ICO gave ni. these pistols directly rather than 0957 My information to date seems to indicate the following; Admiral Miles of SACO gave out 100,000 pistols to the forces ofChiang K,-i 055 gave out 100,000 pistols to Mao's forces...and then was ready to givr out an additional 100,000 pistols to Mao's forces. Then somewhere in th' period the U S Army received a goodly quantity to be used In the invasion of the Philippine Islands. Could you tell me if I have my farts coy-rect' Finally, could you tell me if 055 supplied arms to Yugoslavia during World War 2? I have also inclosed a copy of the letter from the War Munr in England which you may find interesting. You needn't return it. The book refered to is Sincerely, R W K^CH e~u~fp4prr phI Or 9/h15 : CIA-RDP75B00380F 000200090038-4 1AM 2y wi top of page 273 of that book.
