Mr. R. W. Koch
Dear Mr. Koch:
As you will no doubt recall, I told you in a previous
letter I checked with the CIA logistics unit early in our
correspondence to see what, if any, information they had on
the "Liberator" pistol.
The only knowledge they had was on the one in their
museum and one other that they had received from the Army
arsenal. They did have a copy of the old weapons manual
with the description but no records of ever having; any
supply of the guns.
It's not that anyone is trying to withhold any
information; it's just that World War II OSS records on
supplies and equipment is practically nonexistent. You
have to bear in mind that almost everyone in OSS was in the
military service, and once the war was over they were only
interested in closing up their respective offices and getting
discharged and back home. I am surprised that any records
were retained under the circumstances.
Sorry I can't be more helpful, but there doesn't seem to
be any additional information in the OSS or CIA files on the
"Liberator" pistol.
I told a friend about you finding a source for these
weapons in Canada. If they are still available and not too
expensive, he would like to buy one. 1)o you have the address
and name of the firm?
Sincerely,
ACR:dm (19 Mar 73)
