During my research into the utilization ;1nd distribution of the
"Liberator" pistol in Ii'i12 I have learned that they were introduced
into Norway by black 0-24 bombers under the command of
who was recruited by 055 early in 1944. This operation 01,S) was
located at Leuchars, Scotland. From there the resupply flights
would make drops into Norway and at times cro:;s over and land in
Sweden for turn-around mainteinence, then return to Leuchors. The
operation was knowr-as a "U5AAF Air Transport Group", but this was
just a cover. It has also been referred to as "38th Group".
If possible, could you give me the correct t'tle for this
operation at Louchurs? I really doubt that it is still classified.
Also, if one is listed, could yenu check the supply records of this
outfit and attempt to determine how many "single allot pistols" wore
sent to Leuchars for further drop into Norway? This particular 0`;S
operation started after D-Day and continued until the war terminated.
Unfortunately, this operation has not received the credit it deserves.
The present Director of CIA was dropped into Norway by the other
8-24 (055) operation located at Harrington Air flaso, England.
