Com stall, called to say that Chairmen Rosenthal and Hamilton would
like the briefing on Greece for themselves and a.-few colleagues in Rosenthal's
office, room 2453 RHOB, at 10:00 a. m. on Thursday, 13 September. He said
he doubted there would be a large gathering and the briefing could be very
informal.

for sweeps and security checks on Senator Jackson's office but felt that in
view of political concern over the Agency's involvement in domestic matters
of any kind, and the precedent this would establish, we have to say no,
referring them to the FBI as the appropriate agency for such tasks.
I also told Miss Fosdick that we had no evidence that the Soviets were
shipping American grain to other foreign nations, although Soviet transatlantic
vessels had been known, because of the current congestion in Soviet ports,
to discharge grain in certain European ports for subsequent shipment on
smaller coastal vessels to the USSR.

called and said he and Senator Robert T. Stafford are going to Chile around
1 October as members' of the Interparliamentary Union and would like a
briefing on Chile from the Agency. I told him this could be done and he said
he would check with Senator Stafford and call me back on Monday to set a
time, aiming for Wednesday, 12 September.

Division, and John Warner, OGC, I talked with Dave Dorsen and Scott Armstrong
of the Senate Watergate Committee staff, regarding some sensitivities per-
usual request to the staff that they contact us if they saw any need for any
public discussion of any of these sensitive matters.
