JOURNAL
OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL
Friday - 12 October 1973
1. ( - JGO) Debriefed Richard A. Ransom, House
Armed Services Committee staff, and completed the necessary documentation
closing out his access clearances. Ransom will be leaving the staff on
Monday.
2. ( - JGO) Accompanied , OCI, to a meeting25X1
with Pat Holt, Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff. 0 updated the 25X1
information provided Holt in previous briefings on Chile and responded to his
many questions arising principally from the Washington Post editorial and
Newsweek article on numbers of casualties. There are no followups from
today's meeting.
3. ( - JGO) Delivered to Bill Hogan, Counsel,
Intelligence Subcommittee, House Armed Services Committee, a copy of a
memo from Howard Osborn, D/S, concerning a date set forth in Osborn's
affidavit of 9 May 1973. Hogan told me he would add it to the file and noted
that it would have no effect on the material set forth in the Committee report.
He did not comment further on the Committee report.
4. ( - JGO) Delivered two copies of the transcript of the
Director's briefing of the Inter-American Affairs Subcommittee on 11 October
to Mike Finley, of the Subcommittee staff. Finley told me that he wanted to
check with Marian Czarnecki, Chief of Staff of the House Forei n Affairs
Committee, to see whether the present agreement with the Agency concerning
classified control of the transcripts would allow retention of one copy for
binding in the permanent Committee files. I told Finley that it was my under-
standing that all copies would be retained by the Agency for safekeeping and
would be available on the call of the Committee. The two copies were picked
up at the end of the day and returned to Headquarters for safekeeping.
