I I Chairman Lucien Nedzi, Intelligence Subcommittee, House A.rxned Services Committee called to ask about the front page story in today's Washington Post about Howard Hunt surveilling Senator Barry Goldwater. I reminded Nedzi that John McCone was Director i.n those days and said that we were checking into every angle of the story and talking to everyone who might throw any light on it, but so .far had found .nothing irx any way supporting it. I said if we did, we would let him know immediately. 25X1A Nedzi asked how sensitive information about the number of people we had in Indochina was. I said we considered it secret but if some of his colleagues were pressing him on this, we would provide it to him for use at his discretion. 2? Senator Stuart Symington called to ask about the story in to ay s Washington Post on Howard Hunt. I reminded him that John McCone was Director at the time and said our investigation to date had produced nothing in any way supporting the story but would let him know i.f we came up with anything. He seemed satisfied and said he would see us tomorrow. 3. I I Tom Braden, who writes a column syndicated by the Los Angeles Times, called about the Washington Post story on Howard I~lunt surveilling Senator Goldwater.
