Approved For Ref 0t fl AE DP75B0038OR000100050080-2 Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 5 Monday - 25 June 1973 13. I Met briefly with Ralph Preston, House Appropriations Committee staff, and brought him u? -to-date on the status of legislative authorization proposals for funding I 1.4. I I In response to his telephone call, met with Jim Cline, Counsel, Subcommittee No. 1, House Judiciary Committee, and received from him a series of questions posed by Chairman Joshua Eilberg concerning alleged transfer of American prisoners during the Korean War from Korea to the Soviet Union and other American citizens held by the Soviets. Mr. Shackley, C/EA, has been advised. 15. I IMet with William Phillips and James Kronfeld, Foreign Operations an Government Information Subcommittee staff, House Government Operations Committee, and reviewed with them Chairman Moorhead's request for general background information on the Agency's public information personnel. Phillips agreed that the Agency does not have a public information role but requested that, if possible, the name or designation of the individual who responds to requests for public information on behalf of the Director be stated. It is his opinion that since the name is generally known in the media and in Government circles, it could subject both the Committee and the Agency to some ridicule if nothing can be released except the bland denial of a public information role. As for the request on comments oni which was referenced in the letter, Phillips advised that requests had been made only to selected agencies. A request was not made to the Agency for comment. I told Phillips I would relay his suggestion and be back in touch before final response is made to the letter. Angus Thuermer, Assistant to the Director, has been advised. 16. I I Talked to Mike Van Dusen, Near East and South Asia Subcommittee staff, House Foreign Affairs Committee, who told me that Chairman Hamilton would like to schedule the briefing by Bruce Clarke, D/OSR, for 2:00 p. m. , 11 July, Room H-227 in the Capitol. See Journal of 19 June 1973. Bruce Clarke has been advised. Approved For Release 2006/0$2' EP5b0R00010005008 (6'?RC, 7/19/2003
