Approved For Release lk6y'i(W-RE Ps?5 U0149R000500030026-9 JAN 2 5 1966 CIA ACTIVITIES DRAW SENATORIAL INVESTIGATION (Text) Washington, 24 January--Senator Eugene McCarthy, Democrat from Minnesota, today introduced a resolution in Congress proposing to set up a special subcommittee of the Senate Foreign'Relations Committee for a complete and detailed investigation of the impact of CIA on U.S. foreign policy. The resolution speaks of serious concern over the influence of this agency on, the drafting and conduct of U.S. policy caused by the CIA role in the Dominican Republic and Vietnam. The senator notes with alarm that in the almost 20 yearrs of the existence of CIA, Congress has never officially investigated its activities. The adventurous activities of CIA have been resented for a long time by Americans and have worridd:.them. Therefore, Senator McCartay`s resolution, reflects the alarm felt on Capitol Hill over possible future tragic consequences of uncontrolled CIA Attemptp by U.S. congressmen to plaa'e CIA aptivities under the control of Congress so far have been unsuccessful. In t'ftermeCntime CIA has continued to increase its Influence on U.S, foreign policy and has greatly muscled in on the State Department. The Washington POST wrote yesterday that "there can be little doubt that the' institutionalized growth of the intelligence arm of our government during the cold war years has impinged to a very great extent on what has traditionally been the exclusive sphere of the State Department."
