TALKED TO "CHE"
Richard N. Goodwin, 29, is
President Kennedy's specialist on
Latin-American and Cuban affairs.
Mr. Goodwin, as an aide t9. Mr.
Kennedy, helped with "position
papers" and speeches on Latin
America during the 1960 cam-
paign. He made his first trip to
Latin America last April and is
learning to speak Spanish. He
headed a White House task force
on Cuba after the attempted in-
vasion of that country.
Mr. Goodwin was born in Boston
on Dec. 7, 1931. He was gradu-
ated with honors from Tufts Uni-
versity in 1953 and from Harvard
Law School in 1958, again with
honors. He served two years in the
Army.
Mr. Goodwin was law clerk for
Supreme Court Justice Felix
Frankfurter for the 1958-59 term.
He then joined the House Sub-
committee on Legislative Over-
sight and helped to investigate tele-
vision quiz shows.
In late summer of 1959, Mr.
Goodwin joined the staff of Mr.
Kennedy, then a Senator. He went
on to become Assistant Special
Counsel to the President. In that
post, at 29, Mr. Goodwin is a
top adviser on Latin -American
affairs.
