Siff Limits Government Snooping
WASHINGTON-The Senate last week approved a bill which pro-
hibits the government from getting too personal with most of its
employees. It outlaws lie detector and psychological testing, and per-
sonal questions about an employee's sex life, religion, race, and family,
affairs. Ilowever, the Senate exempted the FBI, National Security!
Agency, and the CIA from many of these provisions. I
The measure also prohibits the use of pressure to force federal)
employees to buy bonds or donate to charity. A c;,mpanion bill, alsoi
i/ sponsored by Sen. Sam Ervin (D., N.C.), to prevent bond-buying pres-
.sure on servicemen, is still in the Senate Judiciary subcommittee with
the Defense Department on record as opposing the measure.
