Donnelly funeral home. Burial services will be private. Mr. Werner, an avid sports- man and for 15 years chief of the St. Louts Regional Office of the Central Intelligence Agency, was one of five persons killed when a light plane, loaded with hunting gear, overshot a small airstrip and crashed into a can- yon wall. The five were in one of four planes carrying an elk-hunting party of 20 to a guest ranch about 24 miles north of Boise. OTHER VICTIMS Other victims of the crash were: George Skakel Jr., 44, of Green- wich, Conn., a brother-in-law of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and a close friend of Mr. Werner's. Dean F. Markham, 41, of McLean, Va., a friend of Sen- ator Kennedy's and holder of a number of federal appoint- ive positions. Earl Ranft, 63, of Jersey City, N.J., president of Debar Haul- age Co., a trucking firm. BODIES FLOWN EAST Donald W. Adams, 38, of Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, pilot of the plane. Bodies of the men were brought out By helicopter and flown east by a twin-engine plane owned by Mr. Skakel's company which had brought the men to Idaho. Skakel was president of the Great Lakes Carbon Corp. of New York. Idaho Aeronautics Director Chet Moulton blamed Mr. Ad- ams for attempting the landing. He said the plane hit a knoll and bounced and that the pilot then tried to pull up for another approach. He apparently flew into a canyon in which there is no room for a plane to t u r n around and crashed. Mr. Moulton said lack of mountain flying experience has caused two other fatal crashes in the area, one on Sept. 14, when Idaho's Democratic candi- date for governor, Charles Herndon, was killed. SIMILAR TRIPS Mr. Werner's family said he left St. Louis on the hunting trip early Friday and that he had made similar trips with Mr. Skakel. A rated polo player, Mr. Werner had played several times in New York and St. Louis with Mr. Skakel. Mr. Werner, who resided on Shackelford road, Florissant, was born Nov. 14, 1923, in St. Louis, a son of the late Joseph L. and Mrs. Elise Garneau Wer- ner. He attended St. Louis Coun- try Day School and was grad- uated with honors from St. Paul's School, Concord, N.H., in 1941. He was graduated from Princeton University cum laude in 1946. Mr. Werner served as a fighter pilot with the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945 in the South Pacific and was twice decorated for combat services. He was associated with his brother, Joseph G. Werner, as a private investment banker be- ginning in 1945, continuing in that capacity after joining the CIA in 1949. Mr. Werner was a director of the Mercantile Trust Co. in St. Louis, a board member of the Cardinal Glennon Memorial Hos- pital, executive board member of the St. Louis Polo Association, and a member of the Bridle Spur Hunt Club, St. Louis Country Club, St. Louis Racquet Club and Noon Day Club. His wife, the former Anne Kennett Farrar Desloge, was Veiled Prophet Queen in 1946. In addition to the wife and brother, survivors include two daughters, Elise Werner II and Anne D. Werner; two sons, Louis . G. and Peter D, Werner; the mother, Mrs. Joseph G. Werner, ~ and a sister, Mrs. Horace (Claire) F. Henriques, Green- wich, Conn.
